LT1 Goes Lean Under Load After Fuel-System Changes
Separate pump supply, pressure regulation, injector differential pressure and calibration before blaming the pump on a modified LT1.
APPLICATION: Modified LT1 F-body with a repeatable lean/load complaint after pump, regulator, injector, line or fuel-system changes.
MODIFIED-CAR / AFTERMARKET EVIDENCE · VERIFY INSTALLED HARDWARE
1 · REPRODUCE WITH SAFE DATA
- Capture the exact load/RPM where the complaint begins and compare fuel pressure/mixture behavior without guessing from idle pressure.
2 · VERIFY PUMP ELECTRICAL SUPPLY
- Check the pump power and ground path under load. A pump cannot be judged fairly if its supply falls when demand rises.
3 · VERIFY REGULATOR REFERENCE / DIFFERENTIAL
- On a manifold-referenced bypass system, verify the reference hose and regulator behavior so injector differential pressure remains intentional.
4 · VERIFY INJECTOR / CALIBRATION HEADROOM
- Confirm the installed injector data and commanded fuel are appropriate before increasing pressure to hide a calibration or injector-capacity problem.
DO NOT REPLACE YET
Do not replace the pump because the engine is lean at WOT. First prove whether pump supply, regulator/reference, injector differential pressure or calibration is the failing branch.
PARTS VERDICT
Replace the pump/regulator/injector only when its own function is proven deficient. Repair wiring, plumbing/reference or calibration when those are the cause.
REPAIR → VERIFY
Repeat the same controlled load test and verify pressure/mixture remain stable with no recurrence of the lean event.
FPV DIAGNOSTIC RULE
SYMPTOM → TEST → ISOLATE → PROVE → PARTS VERDICT → REPAIR → VERIFY. Modified-car data changes the test plan; it does not automatically condemn the part named in a code or symptom.
