LS1 Hard Hot Restart After Injector or Fuel-System Changes
Diagnose a hot crank, flooded restart or long restart after injector/fuel-system work by separating heat, retained pressure, leakage, voltage and injector data.
1 · CLASSIFY THE HOT RESTART
- Determine whether it cranks normally but needs extra time, behaves flooded, restarts lean, or also loses electrical cranking speed when hot.
- Capture fuel pressure and system voltage before, during and immediately after the failed restart.
2 · CHECK HEAT-SOAK / FUEL SUPPLY
- Look for rising pump noise, hot tank/line conditions, restricted inlet or pressure instability after extended driving.
- Aeromotive documents hot-fuel cavitation/vapor-lock behavior as a cause of falling pressure and pump noise.
3 · CHECK PRESSURE RETENTION / LEAKAGE EVIDENCE
- Observe what the modified system does after shutdown rather than assuming stock leak-down behavior applies.
- If restart looks flooded, compare plugs/cylinders and injector leakage evidence before changing cranking fuel tables.
4 · VERIFY INJECTOR DATA AND VOLTAGE COMPENSATION
- Incorrect injector offset/low-pulse characterization can create fueling error that changes with voltage and operating condition.
- If hardware and pressure behavior are repeatable, compare the exact injector data and hot-restart calibration against a known-good file.
DO NOT REPLACE YET
Do not replace the starter, pump, injectors or sensors from the hot-restart symptom alone. First prove whether the failure is cranking, pressure/supply, injector leakage or calibration.
PARTS VERDICT
The replacement verdict follows the measured branch. A pump is not earned by heat alone; an injector is not earned by rich restart alone; a calibration correction is appropriate only after the physical system is verified.
REPAIR → VERIFY
Heat-soak the vehicle to the original failure condition, perform multiple hot restarts, watch pressure/voltage and verify the repair does not create a cold-start or idle problem.
