LT1 Reference by Year
Pick the model year first. Specifications and service notes stay with the year they apply to.

LT1 cars changed during 1993–1997. Do not carry a number, part detail or test limit from one year into another unless the page says the same information applies.
1993 — LT1
Optispark
Uses the early non-vented, splined-drive Optispark design.
Optispark diagnosis →
Temperature-gauge bulletin
GM bulletin 438107 covers the applicable early gauge/sender correction. Compare actual engine temperature with gauge indication before changing the sender circuit.
1993 exhaust backpressure test
The 1993 LT1 has exact exhaust-backpressure limits and test locations kept on the dedicated diagnostic page.
Restricted exhaust test →
1994 — LT1
Optispark
Uses the early non-vented, splined-drive Optispark design.
Cooling-fan architecture
Two factory relay arrangements are encountered. Identify the actual relay configuration before following a fan circuit path.
Temperature-gauge bulletin
GM bulletin 438107 applies to early 1994 cars within the listed VIN range. Use scan/temperature comparison before applying the circuit correction.
1995 — LT1
Fuel pressure
41–47 psi KOEO. Manifold vacuum lowers running pressure below the key-on/engine-off reading.
Fuel-pressure reference →
Injector feeds
Fuse #9 feeds cylinders 2, 3, 5, 8. Fuse #10 feeds 1, 4, 6, 7. Four injectors lost together should send diagnosis toward the shared feed before individual injectors.
Optispark
Uses the later pin-drive Optispark with positive ventilation.
Loaded spark
The applicable procedure uses an ST-125 or equivalent tester requiring about 25 kV to fire. An unloaded visible spark does not prove adequate output under load.
Cooling fans
Low speed ON 226°F, OFF 221°F. High speed ON 235°F, OFF 230°F.
Cooling-fan diagnosis →
Rich exhaust / odor
The dedicated symptom workflow keeps the 1995 fuel, injector, purge, MAF and related checks together.
Exhaust emissions / odor diagnosis →
Intermittent problem diagnosis
1995 LT1 factory strategy for faults that come and go: preserve the failure, inspect connections, record circuit or scan data, and prove the location before replacing a part.
1995 intermittent problem diagnosis →
A/C compressor won't engage
1995 LT1 A/C control diagnosis: request signal, PCM inhibit conditions, refrigerant-pressure input, evaporator-temperature input, relay command and clutch circuit.
1995 A/C clutch diagnosis →
Automatic won't shift out of Park
1995 automatic-transmission BTSI diagnosis: brake-switch power, interlock release, range-switch ground path and solenoid circuit.
1995 power windows / RAP
Body-electrical guide for power-window failures, retained accessory power and the 1995 window/lock switch bulletin.
1995 rear-window defogger
Body-electrical guide for switch/timer operation, grid power, hatch-glass connections and damaged grid elements.
1996 — LT1
Fuel pressure
41–47 psi KOEO. Use the fuel-pressure page for interpretation and pressure-decay branches.
Fuel-pressure reference →
Optispark
Uses the later pin-drive Optispark with positive ventilation.
Crank-position / P0335 path
P0335 can involve the CKP circuit, distributor low-resolution reference, mechanical correlation or timing-chain wear. Do not replace the CKP sensor from the code alone.
ECT and dash gauge
PCM coolant temperature uses the two-wire ECT sensor at the water-pump housing; the dash gauge uses a separate sender/circuit.
Coolant-temperature reference →
Cooling fans
Low speed ON 226°F, OFF 221°F. High speed ON 234°F, OFF 229°F.
Compression
Warm engine, all plugs removed, throttle wide open. No cylinder below 100 psi; lowest cylinder at least 70% of the highest.
OBD-II readiness
A monitor showing COMPLETE/READY means the diagnostic ran to a determination. It does not by itself mean the monitored system is healthy.
1997 — LT1
Optispark
Uses the later pin-drive Optispark with positive ventilation.
Injector testing
Use the 1997 Firebird injector procedure for the applicable electrical and balance-test limits. Keep electrical condition separate from injector flow and sealing.
Injector reference →
Cooling fans
Use the exact 1997 fan strategy for the car. Earlier LT1 fan-temperature numbers are not carried into 1997 here.
Cooling-fan diagnosis →
Coolant loss
Repeated coolant loss has its own 1997 workflow covering external leaks, recovery/cap problems, fill/bleed, pressure testing and evidence of internal loss.
Coolant-loss diagnosis →
OBD-II readiness
Save codes, Freeze Frame/Failure Records and readiness state before clearing codes or disconnecting battery power when that information is available.
Applies Across Multiple LT1 Years
Distributor reference signals
High resolution: 180 pulses per crank revolution. Low resolution: 4 pulses per crank revolution. Signal level is approximately 0–5 V.
GM bulletin 87-65-27
Water intrusion, carbon tracking and cap/rotor cracking are known miss/driveability possibilities. Diagnosis still comes before distributor replacement.
LT1 fill / bleed
Later LT1 procedures use dedicated bleed points around the thermostat/heater-return area and heater outlet pipe above the water pump. Keep coolant off the distributor.
LT1 cooling-system reference →
Pressure diagnosis
When the applicable test calls for return restriction, pressure should rise above 47 psi. Do not exceed 60 psi. Pressure decay can involve the pump side, regulator or injectors.
