LS1 SPARK PLUG TORQUE
Condition-specific LS1 spark-plug torque reference. The 2002 service value is shown below. Earlier model years can differ.
22 lb-ft new head · 11 lb-ft subsequent
Application: 2002 Firebird / Trans Am LS1 service information.
GM specifies 22 lb-ft / 30 N·m for initial installation into a new cylinder head and 11 lb-ft / 15 N·m for subsequent installation. FPV does not extend this record to earlier LS1 model years without equally specific support.
Verify the exact plug and model year
FPV's source material shows different plug/application gap values, including 0.040 in and 0.060 in. FPV therefore does not publish one blanket LS1 gap as though it applies to every plug and every year.
Use the specification for the exact plug and vehicle application being serviced.
Condition matters
Start with the correct plug for the application, inspect the threads and seating area, and torque the plug rather than guessing by feel. If the installed plug is unknown, identify it before assuming its gap specification.
Reference information only. Verify exact year, application, installed component and current service procedure before repair.
