Rear-Axle Swap: “Fits F-Body” Is Not Enough

The housing is only one piece. A successful swap has to satisfy every chassis, brake, sensor and driveline interface.

APPLICATION: 1993–2002 Firebird / Formula / Trans Am considering a 10-bolt replacement, 12-bolt, 9-inch or other aftermarket rear.

Mechanical interfaces

Lower control arms, panhard bar, shocks/springs, sway bar and torque arm all locate or react through the rear axle.

Brake interfaces

Caliper/backing-plate mounting, rotor offset, hydraulic hose routing and parking-brake actuation must match the chosen rear.

Electronic interfaces

ABS/TCS sensor and reluctor architecture must match the car. “ABS compatible” is not specific enough unless the channel arrangement is stated.

Driveline interfaces

Pinion/yoke, driveshaft length, U-joint, torque-arm mount and pinion-angle range must work together.

DO NOT ORDER FROM YEAR RANGE ALONE

Before purchase, document year, ABS/TCS option, current brakes, transmission, driveshaft, torque arm, wheel package and intended rear width.

FPV RULE
OBSERVE → MEASURE → ISOLATE → PROVE → REPAIR → VERIFY. Do not turn a symptom, DTC or catalog fitment label into a parts order.
