LT1 Runs Rich After an Injector Swap
Prove injector characterization, pressure reference, leakage and airflow inputs before replacing injectors on a modified LT1.
APPLICATION: Modified LT1 F-body after injector or fuel-system changes; calibration strategy varies by year and tuning platform, so use the data appropriate to the installed controller.
MODIFIED-CAR / AFTERMARKET EVIDENCE · VERIFY INSTALLED HARDWARE
1 · VERIFY THE INJECTOR IDENTITY
- Record exact injector part number and the characterization/data actually entered in the calibration. Advertised flow rate alone is not a complete injector model.
2 · VERIFY EFFECTIVE FUEL PRESSURE
- Determine whether the installed regulator/system maintains the intended differential pressure across the injector. Rail pressure alone can mislead.
3 · CHECK FOR LEAKAGE / MECHANICAL FUEL
- Separate calibration error from an injector that leaks or a regulator/reference fault that physically overfuels the engine.
4 · CROSS-CHECK AIRFLOW MODEL
- Do not compensate for a MAF/intake error by distorting injector data. Keep the injector model and airflow model as separate proof branches.
DO NOT REPLACE YET
Do not replace a full injector set because trims are rich after the swap. Prove characterization, effective pressure, leakage and airflow inputs first.
PARTS VERDICT
Injectors earn replacement for proven leakage/flow/electrical failure. Calibration or regulator/reference faults earn calibration or fuel-system correction instead.
REPAIR → VERIFY
Cold start, hot restart, idle and controlled load operation should all return without the original rich symptom while trims and plug condition remain stable.
FPV DIAGNOSTIC RULE
SYMPTOM → TEST → ISOLATE → PROVE → PARTS VERDICT → REPAIR → VERIFY. Modified-car data changes the test plan; it does not automatically condemn the part named in a code or symptom.
