LT1 Overheats After Electric Fan / Water-Pump Cooling Changes

Separate coolant circulation, fan airflow, electrical supply and calibration/command changes before replacing cooling parts.

APPLICATION: Modified LT1 F-body after electric fan control, water-pump, radiator or cooling-system changes with a new overheating complaint.
MODIFIED-CAR / AFTERMARKET EVIDENCE · VERIFY INSTALLED HARDWARE

1 · DEFINE WHEN TEMPERATURE RISES

  • Idle-only, road-speed, sustained-load and post-shutdown heat complaints point to different branches. Reproduce the actual pattern.

2 · VERIFY COOLANT CIRCULATION / AIR REMOVAL

  • Confirm the system is filled, purged and circulating correctly before using fan changes to compensate for a circulation problem.

3 · VERIFY FAN AIRFLOW AND ELECTRICAL SUPPLY

  • Prove the fans move air in the intended direction and receive usable voltage/current under the condition that overheats.

4 · VERIFY COMMAND / CONTROLLER LOGIC

  • Aftermarket controllers and calibration changes must be checked against actual fan operation; a command setting is not proof the fan circuit works.

DO NOT REPLACE YET

Do not replace the radiator, pump or fans because temperature rose after modifications. Isolate circulation, airflow, electrical supply and control first.

PARTS VERDICT

Replace only the component whose cooling function is proven deficient. Repair wiring/controller setup or purge/flow problems when those are responsible.

REPAIR → VERIFY

Repeat the same idle/road/load condition and verify stable temperature behavior, fan operation and no coolant loss after heat soak.

FPV DIAGNOSTIC RULE
SYMPTOM → TEST → ISOLATE → PROVE → PARTS VERDICT → REPAIR → VERIFY. Modified-car data changes the test plan; it does not automatically condemn the part named in a code or symptom.
