LT1 MAF / Intake Airflow Mismatch After Modifications

Separate unmetered air, MAF installation, fuel pressure and calibration mismatch before replacing the MAF on a modified LT1.

APPLICATION: MAF-equipped modified LT1 F-body with intake/MAF/duct changes and a new drivability or fuel-trim complaint; verify the actual year/controller configuration.
MODIFIED-CAR / AFTERMARKET EVIDENCE · VERIFY INSTALLED HARDWARE

1 · AUDIT THE AIR PATH

  • Inspect every joint between the meter and throttle body plus PCV/vacuum connections disturbed during the modification.

2 · VERIFY THE MAF INSTALLATION

  • Confirm the installed meter/housing and orientation match the calibration strategy. A clean sensor does not prove the airflow model is correct.

3 · SEPARATE AIRFLOW FROM FUEL MODEL

  • Check pressure and injector characterization before changing MAF calibration to compensate for a fuel-system error.

4 · COMPARE KNOWN-GOOD CONFIGURATION

  • Where practical, restore the prior known-good intake/meter configuration to determine whether the symptom follows the hardware/calibration change.

DO NOT REPLACE YET

Do not replace the MAF because trims or drivability changed after intake work. Prove the meter itself is faulty rather than installation, unmetered air or calibration.

PARTS VERDICT

Replace the MAF only for a proven sensor/circuit failure. Repair air leaks/installation or correct calibration when those branches fail.

REPAIR → VERIFY

Retest idle, transition and controlled load operation; verify the original symptom and trim bias do not return.

FPV DIAGNOSTIC RULE
SYMPTOM → TEST → ISOLATE → PROVE → PARTS VERDICT → REPAIR → VERIFY. Modified-car data changes the test plan; it does not automatically condemn the part named in a code or symptom.
