LS1 Long-Tube Headers: O2 and Lean-Complaint Checkpoints
Diagnostic checkpoints when long-tube headers, relocated oxygen sensors or exhaust changes are present.
OBSERVE
Identify header brand/configuration, O2 locations, extensions, collector/Y-pipe joints, catalyst configuration and tune history before interpreting a trim or O2 code.
ISOLATE
Separate an actual air/fuel problem from exhaust leakage, wiring/heater faults, sensor placement, calibration changes and unrelated engine faults.
False-positive trap
A modified exhaust changes the diagnostic context. Do not assume a post-modification O2 or trim complaint means the sensor itself failed.
DO NOT REPLACE YET
Inspect and test the installed system before buying O2 sensors, MAF parts, injectors or a fuel pump.
AFTER THE FAILURE IS PROVEN
Use the proven failed branch—not the original symptom—to choose the replacement. Go from diagnosis to the Parts Verdict →
