Aging F-Body Checklist
Mileage tells only part of the story. Inspect the systems that age while the car sits.
Low mileage does not stop aging. A 1993–2002 car can have age-related deterioration even when odometer mileage is modest.
Electrical
- Battery age and terminal condition
- Engine/body grounds and added aftermarket grounds
- Harness repairs, splices, alarm/audio wiring and heat damage
Chassis
- Tire age as well as tread depth
- Bushings, ball joints, tie rods, hubs and shocks
- Brake hoses, hard lines, calipers and parking-brake operation
Body / weather
- T-top, hatch and door weatherstripping
- Water entry around rear storage/electrical areas
- Headlamp-door, window, lock and hatch mechanisms
Modified-car audit
- Identify non-stock engine/trans/rear/brake hardware
- Document tune/controller changes
- Check wheel/tire clearance through steering and suspension travel
