2002 Firebird Lumbar Support Inoperative Diagnosis

Lumbar failure is its own seat-system complaint and should not be diagnosed as a main seat-adjuster failure.

APPLICATION: 2002 Pontiac Firebird / Formula / Trans Am with the factory system described. Match options and installed hardware before applying a circuit path.

Keep the systems separate

A seat can move normally while the lumbar system is inoperative. Record which functions work before disassembly.

Inspect the local circuit

Check the lumbar switch, accessible connectors, wiring and the seat cushion/air-control components applicable to the installed seat.

Watch for intermittent wiring

Movement of the seat can flex the under-seat harness. If the symptom changes with seat position, inspect terminals and routing before replacing components.

DO NOT REPLACE THE WHOLE SEAT

Isolate the lumbar branch. Main power-seat operation does not prove or condemn the lumbar components.

FPV RULE
OBSERVE → MEASURE → ISOLATE → PROVE → REPAIR → VERIFY. A symptom is a starting point, not a parts verdict.

AFTER THE FAILURE IS PROVEN

Use the proven failed branch—not the original symptom—to choose the replacement. Go from diagnosis to the Parts Verdict →
