Record the behavior
Always empty, always full, intermittent, stuck at one point, or inaccurate only at certain fuel levels are useful distinctions.
A bad fuel reading can originate at the tank sender, wiring or instrument cluster. The gauge display alone does not identify the failed part.
Always empty, always full, intermittent, stuck at one point, or inaccurate only at certain fuel levels are useful distinctions.
The factory diagnostic structure includes IPC scan data and a dedicated fuel-gauge symptom path. Use available data to separate the displayed value from the sender/circuit input.
Check accessible connectors and wiring for damage or poor connections. Previous fuel-pump module work is especially relevant history.
Do not replace the sender or fuel-pump module until the sender/circuit side has been isolated from the IPC/display side.
