2002 Firebird Convertible Top Inoperative Diagnosis

A power top that will not move needs electrical, hydraulic and mechanical separation before a pump or motor is ordered.

APPLICATION: 2002 Pontiac Firebird / Formula / Trans Am with the factory system described. Match options and installed hardware before applying a circuit path.

Confirm the exact symptom

No movement, movement in only one direction, slow/uneven movement and a top that stops partway are different failure patterns.

Inspect electrical control

Verify circuit protection, switch/relay command, connectors and the pump/motor electrical path using the convertible-specific factory diagram.

Inspect hydraulic/mechanical condition

Look for leakage, damaged cylinders/lines, binding linkage and evidence the top is mechanically loaded before condemning the pump.

DO NOT FORCE THE TOP

Use the factory manual-operation procedure when required. Do not improvise on hydraulic lines, linkage or powered movement.

FPV RULE
OBSERVE → MEASURE → ISOLATE → PROVE → REPAIR → VERIFY. A symptom is a starting point, not a parts verdict.
